Our Mission

The Bioethics Society of UNC aims to provide a space for students to consider complex bioethics issues and engage in conversations about how to better the fields of bioethics, medicine, and medical humanities

  • Why Ethics?

Ethical problem solving skills are essential in every discipline. The students of UNC have the unique advantage of being well versed in philosophy and theology as liberal arts students. Bioethics Society of UNC will offer students the opportunity to apply this knowledge to some of the most challenging moral issues confronting society.

  • A Diversity of Perspectives

Bioethics Society of UNC is committed to creating an inclusive environment for students from different backgrounds to share their opinions and consider highly controversial topics. Collaboration is the key to solving the most challenging ethical dilemmas. We ask that all students attend our meetings with an open mind and willingness to consider and embrace the ideas of others.

  • Trending topics in Bioethics

Trending topics in Bioethics include gene editing, traumatic brain injuries and consciousness, religion in medical decision making and providing healthcare to undocumented immigrants. In addition, we examine artificial intelligence in medicine and research, climate change, stem cell research, racial disparities in research, xenotransplantation, transplantation and resource allocation and clinical health data ownership.
